The Brief

A corporate client came to Stacked Events for an end-of-year Winter Party at the Hilton Liverpool. They wanted more than a drinks reception and a sit-down dinner. The brief was for a themed event that would feel genuinely immersive and leave a distinct impression. The Mamma Mia-inspired Greek Taverna concept was agreed early: the challenge was in the execution.

The Challenge

Themed events at hotel venues carry a specific risk. The room does not naturally support a different environment, and a themed overlay that doesn't commit fully tends to read as decoration rather than transformation. Greek Taverna as a concept required set design, not just props — the space had to feel convincingly different before the first guest arrived.

The entertainment brief was equally demanding. Multiple acts — a guitarist, a performing arts college, and an ABBA tribute — needed to sequence into a coherent evening. They could not feel like three separate bookings that happened to share a night. Each element had to serve the overall energy arc: from arrival through performance to dancing.

Working with a local performing arts college introduced a coordination layer that a straightforward commercial booking would not. The Mamma Mia-inspired performance had to be rehearsed, briefed, and staged to the standard the venue and evening required.

Our Approach

Stacked Events led the creative direction and managed all production from brief to delivery. The Hilton Liverpool was contracted, with guest accommodation coordinated alongside the event — removing the client's need to manage venue and travel logistics separately.

The room transformation centred on large-format themed trees, candelabra table centres, and Mediterranean props positioned throughout the space. AV and lighting were designed to support the environment rather than sit alongside it: warm tones, consistent theming, nothing that broke the setting. The goal was for guests to feel the shift as they walked in, before any entertainment had begun.

The entertainment was sequenced deliberately. A guitarist played during welcome drinks, setting the Mediterranean tone at a lower register before the room filled and the programme escalated. The performing arts college performance came next: an original Mamma Mia-inspired show that required direct coordination with the college and staging support from Stacked Events. The ABBA tribute act followed and took the room into dancing, with the energy already built by the performances before them.

Partnering with a local performing arts college gave the evening a live creative element that a standard tribute booking could not deliver. The students brought rehearsed choreography and a different quality of performance energy. Stacked Events managed all briefing, rehearsal logistics, and on-the-night coordination directly — the client had no contact to maintain with the college.

The Result

The room held its Greek Taverna character through welcome drinks, the seated dinner, both performances, and the dance floor close. The entertainment sequence ran in its intended order and built in energy through the evening. Guests joined the ABBA tribute act on the dance floor — the format reached its intended conclusion.

The client confirmed the evening met the brief, with the theming detail and entertainment specifically noted in their feedback.
